Competitors from five countries will start

Competitors from five countries will start on the next battle of the Central European Zone (CEZ) and the Open Hungarian Cross-Country Championship in Gyula between 4 and 6 October.

Here comes the battle of Dakar stars, Czech, Polish and Hungarian champions

This weekend – between 4 and October – the next event of the Central European Zone (CEZ) and the Open Hungarian Cross-Country Championship will start. The event will be hosted by Gyula and the surrounding areas as usual.Altogether eight stages will be performed by international and very prominent fifty competitors in the categories of cars, bikes, quads, truck and side-by-side.

However the Gyula event of the Central European Zone Championship and the Open Hungarian Cross-Country Championship had to be cancelled due to the very wet weather in the beginning of June, thanks to the organisers, the SKUBA Cross-country event will be held next weekend with the participation of a very prominent field. The location of the event remained the same, so Gyula and its citizens glad to welcome the lovers of cross-country again between 4 and 6 October. Good news in particular for the organisers, that according to the forecasts the weather will not cause any trouble, so the competitors coming from five countries – apart from the Hungarians Czech, Slovak, Polish and Dutch competitors will start – will fight in especially hard and thrilling battles during the four stages on Saturday and the four stages on Sunday. Altogether the competitors will perform 560,4 kms.

“Till now everything is running smoothly regarding the event, everything is as planned. It is a huge relief that we could find a date in the race calendar where we can adjust the event which was postponed in June. Additionally, no similar event is organised, so a very prominent group of competitors will arrive for the battles of the weekend, since together with the competitors who already participated in Dakar and Africa Race events, the champions of three countries will also enter the competition. Knowing the participants, we will have 2 or 3 entrants per category which have chance for the final victory” – informed us Viktor Merkovics, the Organiser of the SKUBA Cross-Country, who will also participate among the truck racers.

Only a few names from the entrants. The Czech Miroslav Zapletal with his car who has already proven in the Dakar and European cross-country events, the biker Lajos Horváth (Laller) who has already participated in the Dakar twice, Imre Varga with his car who has already proven his abilities in the Africa Race, or the pretty experienced two pilots from Czech Republic, Tomas Ourednicek or Zdenek Porizek and the Hungarian Pál Lónyai, whose co-driver Albert Horn has also participated in Dakar event. Péter Kárpáti, champion of 2018 among bikers will also join the battle, Attila Csató, the Hungarian Champion of category car will dictate the itinerary for the 2018 side-by-side Hungarian champion György Kovács, and will probably have a big battle with the best Polish, the duo of Tomasz Bialkowski, Dariusz Baskiewicz.Additionally, according to the preliminary entries sent, six ladies will also join the event.

“According to our preliminary information, huge interest will be expected, due to this one of our most important tasks will be to take care of safety. We put a big emphasise to provide a good race for the spectators, so in both days we will designate spectator zones on the given stages, where they can follow the event up close, and we also allow free entering to the Service Park in Vértanúk street in Gyula, to make it possible to check the vehicles from close, and to have a chance to have a conversation with the competitors” – mentioned László Polgár, the head of the organising committee of SKUBA Cross-Country.

The lovers of cross-country will find all the spectator zones, program, entry list and additional useful information on the website www.terep-rallye.hu, on the Facebook site of SKUBA Cross-Country (https://www.facebook.com/sccgy/) and they will also have the chance to track the current standing of the event.
